Training dogs using Positive Reinforcement

We are offering classes at our location by Cathy Huska from Life’s Ruff. Cathy has been training dogs professionally since 1996, utilizing positive reinforcement methods and welcoming dogs of all ages. The goal is to build on the relationship you have with your dog, whether a new family member, or has been with you for years!

All of our trainers are certified and members of the Canadian Association for professional Pet Dog Trainers.

Classes Available

Puppy: this class is for puppies between the ages of 10 weeks – 20 weeks.
Requirements: Dogs must have their second round of vaccinations.

Puppy classes are a very important part of having a great family member. Each week the puppies will meet their new friends with an off leash time, and then work on some basic obedience with real life applications. A great way to start off a lifelong relationship with your pet. This course is a 6 week, once a week class.

Beginner: this class is developed for dogs 20 weeks and over.
Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations

Learn how to build a positive relationship and strengthen the bond between you and your dog. In this class we focus on teaching the dogs real life obedience such as loose leash walking, reliable recall, and much more. At Spring Bank Kennel we have the opportunity to work inside and out for a more real world experience. Not suitable for dogs with a history of aggression/reactivity with dogs or people.

Novice Classes

Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations

This class is designed for those people who have learned the basic obedience skills. You will learn new, more advanced skills while perfecting the old ones. Our novice class is challenging yet fun for you and your dog. Novice Classes run on a six-week schedule with each class running for one hour. Please see our calendar for the current schedule. Our classes are normally full two weeks prior to start.

Real Life: For dogs 6 months and older

Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations

Already done the basics? In this class we will be working in one of our large fenced in areas, focusing on loose leash walking and recall using real life situations. Bring a favorite toy, a pocket of good treats and some good shoes and you are ready to go. (if weather is bad class will be moved in doors).

Specialty Classes

Just a Taste : this class is for puppies 4 months – 18 months of age
Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations
The name says it all. Not sure what you want to do with your puppy? This class is just a taste of everything. Some agility, some tricks, and of course some real life obedience. This class is developed for those dogs who want to do more but maybe you are unsure which path to take. This course is a 4 week course.

Baby and Dog Make A Family: This class is for dogs of any age
Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations.

Congratulations, you’re going to have a baby! In all the flurry of activity, many parents-to-be neglect to prepare the family dog. In this course we discuss how to get fido ready for the new bundle of joy. With some pre-planning, it can be an easy transition for everyone. This course is a must for new parents.

This class is for 3 consecutive Sundays 6:30-7:30pm. TBA

Agility Level 1: This is for dogs 7 months and up. If your dog is over 8 yrs old it is a good idea to check with your vet first. Requirements: dogs must have up to date vaccinations.

Agility is a fun dog sport involving jumping, bridges, tunnels and more!

Kids and Canines – For dogs of any Age.

Requirements: Dog must have up to date vaccinations.

This class is for kids only! Parents can come and watch, but hands off. This class is about putting the kids in charge. They will learn all the basic obedience such as sit, down, stay, and more, plus a few extras, such as working with small jumps and tunnels, and of course a trick or two. Starting Oct. 30 6-7p.

Petite Pups: this class is designed for dogs 25 lb and under.

This class is specially designed for those smaller breed dogs. No more worries about having your smaller friend getting pounced on by a well meaning but much larger puppy. This is a great confidence builder for our little friends, as they can run and play without worries. We will be working on all the same basics as beginner, just in a smaller package.

The only class offered specially for small dogs in Calgary!
